The Grow house is the home of Frederick Grow and where all his children except the oldest 2 or 3 were born. The covered porch was a later addition as well as the rock walled portion to the right. All the white section is the original home. This is the home that Henry Sr. was born in. It's just about a block and a half from the one which Henry Sr. built. The driveway was a long one that originally came in from Flat Rock Rd, but after the farm was sold off for houses in the 1960-70's they changed the driveway to Hagys Ford Road. Dean provided the following information - "I was able to determine the full layout of the farm from a map drawn by Abraham Levering, a neighbor, in 1871. I wouldn't have had a clue except that I had done the downline genealogy and had all the names of the in-laws, husbands, etc. It was also nice that the railroad also kept plat maps of the neighboring properties over the years. That gave me the different outlines as time went on. Keep in mind that North is almost a 45 degree angle to the left as you look at the little circles on some of the Google outline you can see that. The farm bordered on the Schuylkill River which runs northwest in that area. I turned the pictures to make them easier to read. The Flat Rock Hotel which was built by Henry Sr 1809-1810 was on the old river road but from the plat map of 1810 you can see it's location. It was very near an original bridge which crossed the river and which connected to Flat Rock Road, but the bridge washed out in 1851. Leaving only the river road traffic to use the Hotel/Inn/Tavern. Henry Sr's grandson finally sold it in 1871 to the railroad.

  • Notes
    • In August 15, 1840 the prophet Joseph Smith announced the practice of baptism for the dead. They performed these baptisms in the Mississippi river.

Henry Grow, Jr. stood in as proxy for his father Henry Grow, Sr. Henry reported his fathers birthdate as 13 June 1768 in Lower Merion, Montgomery, Pennsylvania, married to Mary Riter 1804 in PA and died 26 Feb 1826 in PA. The proxy baptism took place on 2 Sept 1843 with John Taylor officiator. (Nauvoo Baptismal Records of the Dead. Book D6)
