    • Our beloved mother, Etha Clay Quinn Burton, passed from us on January 26, 2000, after a brief illness. She had suffered from Alzheimer's Disease for several years and was in residence at Garden Terrace Nursing Home in Salt Lake City, Utah.

She is survived by her daughter, Frances, Frances's son, Eric, his wife Kelly and his children, Katie, Lelsy, Eli, and Jacob, and by Frances's daughter, Pamela and her child, Rain. Etha is also survived by her son, Stephen and his wife, Louise, Stephen's son, John and his wife, Caryn and daughter, Rachel and by Stephen's son, Peter and his wife, Jisun and their daughter, Alexis, and son, Justin.Etha was born in Ephraim, Sanpete County, Utah on the first of June 1916 of mixed English, Irish, Danish and Swiss ancestry. She and her three brothers and a sister grew up in a one-room house. On August 14, 1937, Etha married Douglas James Burton from nearby Nephi and the couple moved to San Francisco where Doug worked for the Bank of America.

In 1938, they moved to Southern California where David O. Selznick's secretary was instrumental in securing a screen writer assistant's

job for Etha at the MGM Studios in Hollywood. There she worked for Walter Reisch, Gene Fowler and Fred Zinnemann on such classic motion pictures as "Ninotchka" (Garbo and Douglas), "Comrade X" (Gable and Lamar) and "That Hamilton Woman" (Oliver and Leigh). The last of those stars to survive, Hedy Lamar, died just one week before Etha. The high-point of Doug and Etha's Hollywood social life was a double date with Howard Hughes and Lana Turner at the opening of Ciro's Nightclub.

In 1941, a chronic illness cut short Etha's Hollywood Career and she and Doug moved to the suburbs of Los Angeles where he built a store with his own hands and the financial help of his father. Over the years the store became a shopping center. Doug and Etha retired to a lake at Mission Viejo, California. Shortly before Doug's death, they returned to Utah to be near their grandchildren.

Grave-side services will be Saturday, January 29th, 2 p.m., Larkin Sunset Gardens Chapel, 10600 South 1700 East, Sandy, where friends and family may call one hour prior to the services.
